'Holding on'
I am extremely honoured and proud to be crowned Environmental Awareness Photographer of the Year. This recognition means a great deal, not just for my work but the message behind it. Wildlife deserves to be seen, understood and protected.
The winning image is of an orangutan holding onto an electricity pole as if it were a tree, taken in Borneo. The scene carries a deeper significance, it illustrates the growing convergence of wildlife and urban spaces in Borneo, where habitat fragmentation is forcing orangutans into more frequent contact with people and made-made structures.
It speaks to what is at stake, not in abstract terms but in the lived reality of one young animal caught between forest and human- infrastructure.

'The First Look'
I was visiting the Maasai Mara National Reserve in August 2022 to experience the greatest show on Earth, The Great Migration. With a chance encounter on an early morning game drive, I captured this image of a lioness carrying her new cub. I went on to be awarded a place as runner-up in the Wildlife Category in this prestigious competition, featuring in the April edition of the magazine and other publications.
