CONSERVATION

Wildlife populations have declined by an average of 73% in the last 50 years as cited in the WWF® Living Planet Report 2024 and currently there are more than 150,300 species on the IUCN Red List with more than 42,100 threatened with extinction, highlighting an interlinked crisis of both biodiversity loss and human- driven climate change.

OL PEJETA
EAST AFRICAN BLACK RHINO SANCTUARY

Ol Pejeta is the largest black rhino sanctuary in East Africa, spanning over 90,000 acres and home to two of the world’s last remaining northern white rhinos. It is the only place in Kenya to see chimpanzees, in a sanctuary established to rehabilitate animals rescued from the black market. It has some of the highest predator densities in Kenya, and still manages a very successful livestock programme.
Ol Pejeta also seeks to support the people living around its borders, to ensure wildlife conservation translates to better education, healthcare and infrastructure for the next generation of wildlife guardians. It is a role model for conservation.
RETETI
RETETI ELEPHANT SANCTUARY COMMUNITY UNITED FOR ELEPHANTS (R.E.S.C.U.E)

Reteti, based in Northern Kenya, is the first indigenous owned and run sanctuary of its kind. Orphans are brought in due to drought, human- wildlife conflict, man-made wells and natural mortality which can be traumatic experience for such sentient animals.
They receive all the love, care and dedication they need from their human caregivers to nurture them back to health so that they can be rehabilitated and released back into the wild. Reteti’s story is one of community -driven initiative, conservation and pride.
